Packing - part 2

Well, we’d thought we were going to go the POD storage option, but after a small amount of investigation we’ve decided that’s just not a goer. We really liked the idea because they bring the shipping container to you and you pack it at your leisure - the idea of having it in the back yard and we could just slowly load it for a month or two, sounded perfect. Unfortunately there was no way to get the shipping container into the backyard without removing a fence post as well as a couple of sections of fence! Hmmm. Oh well.

We have also realised, that although the POD storage seemed like a really great idea, they wouldn’t necessarily be able to deliver our stuff to wherever we end up if there is no other POD storage centre in that area. Nor would we be able to easily access our stuff if we needed it once they had taken the container away and stored it, stacking it neatly amongst rows and rows of other shipping containers.

We want to be able to access our stuff easily because we’ve decided that before we set off for good and head up the coast it would probably be wise to do some trial weeks first close to home and spend a few weeks travelling around Victoria (personally I’d like to explore some of the places in Victoria where my Grandma lived and worked, like Murtoa 83 years ago!) or maybe even Tassie. We’ve decided that doing this should help us discover if there are any things we’ve packed into storage that we really, really need!

So now we must begin searching for somewhere to store our stuff, somewhere that gives us access to our stuff whenever we want and somewhere that is reasonably close to where we live now so we can still pack it slowly. You know, take the odd trailer load here and there - it would be nice to get rid of some of the boxes we have stored under our bed, they boys bunk bed and the cot, not to mention all the boxes in the wardrobes.

I reckon that would make a pretty big difference to state of the house, not to mention my mental capacity, which keeps overloading whenever I seriously look at the stack of boxes in our bedroom that have taken over one side of the room, trying to figure out how the heck I actually do this! Not having that giant stack of boxes and stuff there would make quite a difference to the way Tim and I feel when we walk into our bedroom. I can imagine that I would feel lighter, freer, less stressed. I’m looking forward to that.
